At the age of 21, 9 Feb 1864,  Augustus enlisted into Company A, Michigan 11th Infantry Regiment. He mustered out on 15 Apr 1865 and transferred to Company B, Michigan 11th Infantry Regiment  on 15 Apr 1865.
Mustered out on 16 Sep 1865 at Nashville, TN.

Moved to Harrison, Michigan, prior to 1900 from Potterville, Michigan, and became a rural mail carrier out of Harrison.
